One must try the following Thai food delicacies:
  • Tom Yum Goong - A bold, refreshing blend of fragrant lemongrass, chilli, galangal, lime leaves, shallots, lime juice and fish sauce shapes this classic soup.
  • Som Tum - Garlic, chilies, green beans, cherry tomatoes and shredded raw papaya get dramatically pulverized in a pestle and mortar, so releasing a rounded sweet-sour-spicy flavour.
  • Tom Kha Kai - This iconic soup infuses fiery chilies, thinly sliced young galangal, crushed shallots, stalks of lemongrass and tender strips of chicken.
  • Gaeng Daeng – Made with morsels of meat, red curry paste, smooth coconut milk and topped off with a sprinkling of finely sliced kaffir lime leaves.
  • Pad Thai – Thin or wide noodles with crunchy beansprouts, onion and egg, before disembarking for the nearest plate.

Travel Insurance to Thailand no longer mandatory

According to Bloomberg, foreign tourist arrivals in Thailand, totalled 2.03 million between January 1 and June 2022 with India, Malaysia, the UK, Singapore and the US topping the list of 5 major countries whose travellers have Thailand in their travel plans. Thailand’s tourism industry, which was nearly decimated during the pandemic, expects average monthly arrivals to surge to about 1.5 million with the country recently scrapping a pre-travel registration through Thai Pass and mandatory medical/travel insurance from July 1.

Thailand has rolled back most of the pandemic restrictions on travel and businesses, and last week also lifted a mask mandate while allowing pubs and bars and other entertainment houses to return to normal operating hours. The gradual reopening of nightlife entertainment venues and other tourism hotspots draws the curtain down on some of the toughest pandemic restrictions across Asia and is seen as key to luring more foreign tourists in the June-September period.

Thailand did insist upon Travel Insurance that covers COVID-19 (Coronavirus) just like any other eligible sickness is mandatory for the duration of stay in Thailand. It was mandatorily required to have Travel Insurance providing minimum coverage of at least $10,000, including coverage for COVID-19 up until now. However come July 01, 2022, this travel/health insurance requirement no longer is mandatory, but it is highly recommended to have comprehensive travel insurance when you travel to Thailand.

Similarly, all visitors to Thailand had to register themselves with the Thailand Pass system and provide proof of health. Again effective July 01, 2022, Thailand Pass registration is no longer required. Travelers entering Thailand will be required to show Proof of Vaccination or a negative COVID-19 RT-PCR test taken no more than 72 hours prior to their arrival.

Although Travel Insurance is no longer mandatory to visit Thailand, one must opt to cover themselves with a comprehensive travel insurance plan, the benefits of which include:
  • Cover for COVID-19 if you unfortunately contract the disease & require hospitalisation during your trip
  • Coverage upto $1,000,000 for Accident & Sickness related treatment apart from Covid 19
  • Loss of Passport coverage
  • Personal Liability coverage, while overseas
  • Loss and/or Delay of Checked-in Baggage with the Airline
  • Trip Cancellation or Curtailment if you need to cancel your trip for covered reasons
  • Emergency Financial Assistance, is required while abroad
Comprehensive Travel Insurance plans start from just ₹322/- for a 7 day cover if you’re under 40 years of age.
