Sublimits, by definition in Travel Insurance policies are extra caps or limitations in an insurance policy's coverage of certain losses, primarily Sickness Medical expenses. They are part of the original sum insured limit, and set a maximum limit to cover a specific loss or for a specific medical expense. Unlike the total Sum Insured, which is the maximum amount payable by the insurer for a particular medical event, a sublimit restricts the payout for particular categories, such as medical treatments, room rent, or specific procedures, to a lower, predefined amount. Sublimits can be expressed as a dollar amount or as a percentage of the coverage available. Typically they are part of the policy for insureds with advancing age. In other words, a Sublimit in travel insurance is a specific monetary cap placed on certain types of claims or expenses within your overall policy coverage.
There is no specific eligibility for buying a Tata AIG plan without sublimits. For all travelers above the age of 56 years and 99 years, Tata AIG offers both plans With and Without sublimits. The coverages under both the plan options are the same athough the premiums for the NIL Sublimit plan are higher that the plan With Sublimits. However the coverages for Medical Expenses are significantly higher in a plan Without Sublimits. Plans are especially popular among senior citizens due to comprehensive medical coverage.
These plan Without Sublimits are especially suitable for those traveling to countries with high medical costs, such as the US, Europe, UK etc or for those who want to avoid unexpected out-of-pocket expenses due to treatment caps.
Travel insurance policies with sublimits generally have lower premiums but may result in higher out-of-pocket costs if you need treatment that exceeds the sublimit. Policies without sublimits offer higher coverage, covering eligible expenses up to the maximum sum insured for that particular category. The Sublimits are applicable for same illness/injury in case of Hospitalisation, Day Care Treatment and OPD treatment.
